During the season 3 finale, Tammy’s brother, Chris, Revealed that he was brought to the hospital because he could not breathe after entering a food addiction rehabilitation one day. The TLC star was placed on a ventilator and placed in a medially induced coma.
“They’re just telling us that her lungs have left, and her body is closing,” her sister said Amanda The family was “faced with arranging a funeral” for Tammy, he said.
After the reality TV star woke up, he was given a tracheotomy to insert a breathing tube into his throat. After spending three weeks in hospital, he was able to return to rehabilitation.
