Following the “surprise” news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had quietly met Queen Elizabeth in Windsor last week, the British media shook to explain how the meeting took place and what it meant for the royal family. The reporting is quite sporadic, as the Struggle tabloids try to decide whether the meeting was compromising or punitive, whether Harry and Meghan are willing to return to fold and whether the meeting was a farewell. The Daily Mirror version of the meeting was that Harry and Meghan were determined to see Jubilee again, and they promised to bring their children this time:
Prince Harry and Meghan have told the Queen that she will see her grandchildren, Archie and Lilibate, “in the near future.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the promise during a Whistlestop visit to London as they opened the possibility of returning from the United States to the Platinum Jubilee.
Senior royal sources described the meetings as “incredibly warm and good natured” and “very amicable.” The Duke and Duchess told His Excellency of their plans to return so that the Queen could spend time with 11-month-old Lilliput and Archie, who are believed to be in the United States.
A source close to Sussex said: “Both the Duke and the Duchess are increasingly aware of the Queen’s age and have health problems with her old age. They have made it clear that they are definitely planning to return to see the Queen with their family in the near future.”
The Queen’s record-breaking 70 years on the throne will be celebrated across the UK on a special bank holiday weekend from 2 to 5 June. Members of the royal family will gather for a special gathering at St. Paul’s Cathedral, along with the annual Trooping the Color. The Queen also hopes to attend the Epsom Derby, and members of the royal family will attend a special music concert for the 10,000 lucky ticket holders outside Buckingham Palace. Our source said: “It is certainly a possibility that the Duke and Duchess may take part in the celebration.”
Harry and Meghan’s “Clean Air” Discussion with Queen and Prince Charles The Duke of Sussex saw his grandmother for the first time since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral 12 months ago. The decision to stop them on the way to the Invictus Games in The Hague was taken “several weeks ago”, a source said. Harry is understood to have told the Queen about it in a phone call before Prince Philip’s memorial service at Westminster Abbey last month, which he missed.
A senior royal source said of Sussex’s private meeting with the Queen and later Charles and Camilla: “Everyone has as much desire as possible for the Queen to come together.” An insider at the palace commented on how the Easter meeting had “extra significance”, saying: “The Easter period and Monday Thursday are a time of unity and forgiveness, and it is to advance the collective will.”
[From The Daily Mirror]
Do you believe the mirror has a source near Sussex? No, I didn’t. What I believe is that the Queen did not inform her courtiers about what Harry and Megan had told her privately, but she probably hinted to those courtiers that she and Harry discussed the possibility of a family visit to Sussex in the vicinity of Jubilee. That is why the courtiers are now shouting about Mirror, Mail and Sun. “What if Megan and Harry come to the Jubilee.” It is historical to me that Tim Sussex is not leaking and the Queen will not play ball with her own teammates.
You know what would be so amazing to me? If Harry and Meghan bring Archie and Lily for a quiet visit in June and they basically introduce the kids to the Queen and then leave Salt Island in peace without any jubilee event.
