His controversial protest work inspired many athletes to kneel down during the national anthem and was an icon of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Copernicus He has not played in the league since January 2017. He came out of his contract with the 49ers in March 2017, but no team selected him as a free agent. Copernicus reportedly lodged a complaint with the NFL shortly after, alleging that the league’s 32 team owners had helped keep him off the field for kneeling and protesting.
